And also during my high school years
Written on September 12, 2011 – 1:13 am | by brady1 |Given the fact that I am of the male gender, and also placing gender tracking aside, I have to admit that I am not that proficient in cooking. Throughout my raising as a child, from entering the elementary years, and also going through the wonderful years of high school, I have been unable to cook anything, not even once. And because of these events, my mom and dad have really been unable to teach me how to cook and also, I really did not have any reason or motivation whatsoever to try and learn how to cook. And now here I am, now in college, and surprisingly, I find that among my current colleagues, I am the only one unable to cook, and thus, I am now pressured and I have developed a reason and motivation to learn how to cook as soon as possible, with the help of my friends or maybe just by my own efforts. To be frank, this motivation, this urge to learn, was not present during my elementary years mostly because by then, I was studying at an all boys private school where mainly because of gender tracking, teaching us how to cook was not part of their current curriculum. And also during my high school years, the pressure to learn how to cook never came to me because in those years, most of my friends, classmates, and batch mates came from very well off and stable families such that the cooking part of their lives were done by those they were able to hire to do so, and they just simply ate. But going back to the present, I am now in college, and the circle of friends that I almost always hang out with knows how to cook. I have ran the gauntlet of the various types of them jeering at me that I could not cook, and I simply would respond by pretending not to be affected but deep inside, I know I really am. And due to this, I am now learning by recently purchasing books and also with the help of the internet, I have been to websites that teach online mixing and mastering of certain dishes; but I have never considered studying in cooking schools though. Now, I am well on my way to being a very good cook and I do not think I am stopping any time soon.
